Hello， I am Al Kelly， Chairman and CEO of Visa．

On behalf of our employees in China and around the world， I am pleased to share my thoughts and best wishes for the 2022 China Development Forum．

Let me begin by congratulating all of the talented athletes who recently competed in the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games． Visa has been an Olympic sponsor for more than 35 years， and a Paralympic sponsor for more than 20 years． Our sponsorship helps to support the incredible athletes who dedicate their lives to train for the Games．

This year， we were pleased to support Team Visa athletes from China including freestyle skier Eileen Gu； figure skaters Sui Wenjing and Han Cong； and para snowboarder Ji Lijia． It was a real pleasure to watch them all compete and perform at the highest level．

Turning now to the China Development Forum， I have had the great honor to attend CDF in person on multiple occasions． It is always a valuable and memorable experience – three days of gathering with senior business and government leaders from around the world to discuss how we can best address global challenges and opportunities together． Today， while the pandemic prevents us from gathering in person， the spirit of CDF lives on through sustained dialogue about the most critical issues facing our societies．

As a purpose-driven company， Visa is committed to uplifting everyone， everywhere， and helping small businesses recover from the pandemic． In 2020， Visa committed to digitally enable 50 million small businesses globally in three years – and we are on track to meet that goal． We want to help ensure that every business has the right tools to benefit from digital transformation， and we are on a mission to connect as many buyers and sellers as possible through our global network．

Visa has operated in China for nearly 40 years． Today， we partner with 57 of China’s leading financial institutions to help Chinese consumers shop online and outside of China． We also enable local merchants to receive payments from foreign visitors using Visa products． Looking ahead， we see a bright future for the continued development of digital commerce in China．

On my last trip to China， I had the honor of opening our Beijing Innovation Center where we work with local Chinese start-ups to create new custom solutions for the Chinese market – “In China” and “For China”． The Visa Beijing Innovation Center is also an ideal platform for sharing insights and best practices from around the world with our Chinese partners and colleagues．

Working together with a range of financial， technology and ecommerce partners in China， we have also applied digital payments technology to support social imperatives such as financial inclusion， rural revitalization， and people-to-people exchange． Over the years， Visa and our local partners have helped more than 10 million Chinese rural residents improve their lives and work through financial literacy programs． In fact， last year， Visa submitted a paper to the China Development Forum exploring the topic of how digital financial inclusion helps drive China’s poverty alleviation and rural revitalization． The report highlighted the key findings of a two-year joint research project with the Development Research Center of the State Council．

And this year， Visa is working in partnership with the China Women’s Development Foundation and Beijing Sport University to help advance development in the Jing-Jin-Ji region that hosted the Winter Olympics． Through the program， as many as 5，000 women-led small businesses in the culture， travel and sport sector will receive comprehensive business skills training． They are learning how to use digital technology and preparing for business opportunities brought by the Olympics． The program was featured as one of the legacy case studies which demonstrate the lasting impact of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 throughout the region．

Visa is committed to strengthening collaboration and promoting economic growth throughout China． That is the spirit with which we approach CDF 2022， working “together for a shared future．”
